Creativity has always been the essence of my life. My interest in collages rises from an urge to mix bits and pieces that would normally be discarded. I was certainly influenced by Matisse’s collages and ‘Papiers découpés’ (cut papers), and by the powerful use of collages by artists from the surrealist movement. Moreover, I perceive my own life as a true collage, having lived and worked in nine different countries, in Africa, Europe, and North and South America.

I like to combine found shapes in new ways in order to express intense and ineffable emotions. Recently, I have felt the need to interact with volumes and I have started to create sculptures that are still collages to me. They are my 3D collages. Even when working in plastics and metal, I treat these man-made materials as if they were organic
